BUILDERS / TENDER SCOPE
Slip testing for Melbourne builders pricing a tender.
When a Melbourne tender package asks for slip resistance testing, price the visit against the finished floors, not a catalogue P rating. Premrest helps you set a scope the estimator can stand behind.

Many Melbourne builders meet slip testing in the specification, not in the programme. A superintendent, architect or services consultant asks for wet pendulum results on nominated finishes, and the estimator needs a line item that covers the site visit and the report.
This page is for that brief: slip resistance testing a builder can price before the job is won. If the floor is already down and you need a result before practical completion, use slip test before handover instead.
AS 4663 on site versus AS 4586 slip rating language
Tender documents often quote an AS 4586 slip rating: usually a wet pendulum P classification for a new pedestrian surface material. That language belongs to product classification. It describes how a material performed when it was classified, not how the same tile, stone or coating will measure after it is laid in a Southbank foyer or a Dandenong warehouse.
AS 4663 is the on-site (in-situ) method for measuring existing pedestrian surfaces. Once a finish is installed and available for traffic, that is the standard Premrest uses for pendulum slip testing in Melbourne. A product P rating is useful context; it is not a substitute for testing the floor as built.
If the specification mixes the two, say so in your enquiry. Premrest will help you describe the visit in language that matches the document, without treating a catalogue classification as a current site result. Method notes live on the slip resistance testing page.
What a builder should include in the tender price
A useful slip testing tender line is more than “test the floors”. The quote changes with how many surfaces you open, how the tester reaches them, and what the project team wants written down.
- Areas. Name the rooms, levels and external paths in the specification: entries after rain, wet rooms, ramps, stairs, loading docks and any finish the consultant has circled.
- Surfaces. Tile, stone, vinyl, concrete, timber, coatings and transitions each need their own note. A single “floor” line hides mixed finishes on a typical Melbourne commercial job.
- Number of test locations. Count distinct finishes and the spots that matter on each (high-traffic routes, not only unused edges). If the specification sets a count, send that extract.
- Access. Site hours, induction, escort, hoist or stair-only floors, and whether the visit sits before or after other trades. Docklands and inner-city sites often need a named contact on the day.
- Reporting. Say who the slip test report is for (superintendent, certifier, client or your own records) and whether they have asked for particular fields. Confirm the report requirements with Premrest before you lock the tender figure.
The Melbourne building checklist is a practical list of address, access and surface details to send with the enquiry.
How Premrest quotes a builder
Send the suburb or site address, the specification extract if you have it, the finishes and an approximate number of locations. Premrest will confirm the testing scope and price with your quote. Site availability, travel and when the report can be issued are also confirmed with your quote. No standing turnaround is published here.
Work is centred on Melbourne and wider Victoria. Testing in Perth or Western Australia is by arrangement only. This website is operated by Premrest; it does not represent a separate local office.

TENDER QUESTIONS
What builders ask before they price the line.
What should a Melbourne builder include in a slip testing tender?
List the areas and surface types, an approximate number of test locations, how the team will reach those floors, and the reporting the project team expects. Note whether the specification talks about an AS 4586 slip rating or on-site measurement of the finished floor. Premrest will confirm the testing scope with your quote.
How does on-site AS 4663 testing differ from an AS 4586 slip rating?
AS 4586:2013 is the classification language used for new pedestrian surface materials, including wet pendulum P ratings. AS 4663:2013 is the method used to measure existing pedestrian surfaces once they are installed. A product P rating should not be treated as a current measurement of the floor on site.
How is quote timing confirmed for slip resistance testing for a builder?
Site availability, travel and when the report can be issued are confirmed with your quote. Include the suburb, access windows, induction requirements and any tender or construction deadline so Premrest can price a realistic visit.
Does Premrest only do slip testing for Melbourne builders?
Melbourne Slip Test is written for Melbourne and wider Victorian jobs. Work in Perth or Western Australia is by arrangement only. There is no separate local office behind this website; enquiries go to Premrest.
